The Losi DBXL vehicle is large scale RC driving excitement that is most satisfying.

Losi DBXL 23cc Engine

Powerful 23cc Gasoline Engine

The K&N Desert Buggy XL comes equipped to impress with a Dynamite 23cc pull start gasoline engine that delivers over 45 minutes of performance on a full tank all with the distinctive roaring sound that you can only find with gas engines. This 23cc gasoline engine is sure to make your presence is known and a gas tank that delivers over 45 minutes of relentless action on a full tank.

Drivers will find a custom fitted K&N air filter designed to push the Desert Buggy XL to its performance limit. K&N air filters consistency give drivers the edge and the filter on the K&N Desert Buggy XL is no different. The DBXL also comes equipped with a high stall clutch spring. This helps with the engine rev prior to the drivetrain engaging in action.

Durable 4mm aluminum chassis

If you are looking for a chassis that is durable and can handle anything you put in front of it, then Team Losi has you covered. This massive 1/5-Scale buggy is built on an equally rugged, relentless and durable 4mm aluminum chassis. Reinforced for the trials and tribulations of off-road conditions the Losi K&N DBXL won’t back down when pushed to its limits.

Oil-Filled, Coil-Over Shocks

Just like its full-scale inspirations the Desert Buggy XL comes equipped to handle the brutality of the off-road terrain like a champ with oil-filled, coil-over shocks and an independent suspension system. No need to worry about big bumps and jumps. The big shocks and long arms soak them right up! This makes the Buggy suitable for blasting through mounds of dirt and sand. This provides you with that excitement many RC users are looking for.

DBXL All-Terrain Tires

All-Terrain Tires

To give you the best off-road experience possible, the Desert Buggy XL uses rugged all-terrain tires that can conquer nearly any terrain and compliment the sheer size of the Desert Buggy XL.

Jumping

The desert buggy XL has a tendency to drop the nose a little when going off big jumps. This is to be expected with a  larger RC. What you can do is manipulate the throttle a little when you launch. Release it quickly so you can get back on the gas, that should bring the nose right back up for a sweet landing.

Durability

Losi has got you covered when it comes to durability. If you’re driving in the desert, you may be better compensated in the crash aspect, thanks to fewer obstacles. But there may still be a need for concern.

Sand over time will grind away at the parts of your RC vehicle, which will add unwanted wear and tear, which will wear it down prematurely. There may be some trouble for your pull starter, air filter, etc. Losi offers covers for the pull start assembly that should help with preventing particles like sand from getting into engine components and stopping the fun.

Incredible Run Time

I did have the chance to run this buggy first hand. Right out of the box, checked the steering and throttle adjustments to ensure they were properly adjusted. Mixed the fuel to 25:1 mixture as per the manual. The break-in procedure is to run it at slow speeds of a half tank of gas. I choose to run a full tank of gas through it for the break-in. Here a short video of my break in run.

To do the break-in and run the full tank i did it over the course of to days. I ran it for 10-15 minutes and shut it off to let it cool down for 5-10 minutes, then ran it for 15-20 minutes and again shut it off for a while, and so on. The total time to break in was just over an hour of running.

Final Thoughts

The Losi Desert Buggy XL is an amazing 1/5 scale RC. With the size and weight of this beast, you will want to carry a small refueling bottle with you, in case you run out of gas while out in the trail or field. You do not want to get stuck carrying this big boy around! It is very easy to start and runs great. The throttle response is on point, the only thing i would like to be better is the turning radius. We can not expect it to turn on a dime, with the size of this buggy that is just not possible. It does turn really good for a 1/5 scale, just takes a little to get used to if you are not familiar with running 1/5 RC vehicles. Overall, really great running and performing Desert Buggy.

    1. Hey Matt,
The Losi Desert Buggy XL is a big truck. It is a 1/5 scale buggy. Yes it is on the expensive side but, really it is a little cheaper than the XMAXX. It just really depends on what you are looking for.
